Again the center stage is set at US. And I always feel that there is NEWS reality and there is Ground Reality. Most of the time both are worlds apart.

Amid this crisis news we at Gujarat got a huge news of TATA motors coming near to Ahmedabad and planning to setup a NANO (Indian SMALL Car Rs 1.20Lacs) plant. This news is welcomed with enthusiasm and it seems it will give a boost to the Gujarat's economy.

Two very contradictory news !!

I hope Global financial crisis is not as grave as it is potrayed in News channels and NANO will bring MEGA benefits for Gujarat.

While driving in Ahmedabad...

Driving in my city is challenging. Driving is exciting here. While driving in Ahmedabad I go through lots of emotions and thoughts. Emotions involve anger, smile, pity, sadness, …..

In India we have layers after layers of society. This is easy to observe wherever you go in India. Especially when you drive around and look at the people around you in the traffic.

When I drive first reaction I have for fellow drivers around me is anger. Because they are not driving the way I want them to JJ. Then there is sudden change in my reaction, which tells me that common they have their own mind and life, which is reflecting in their driving. I come back to steady state.

While driving I see rickshaw drivers driving at their own pace and in their own route. Here at Ahmedabad they are famous for sneaking in your path. The old ones have absolute sense of life; the life philosophy they tell you is amazing. The comments about current affairs are fun to listen to. The young ones are two types, few reckless and few with some hope in their eyes to do better in life. I had met one fellow who was part time rickshaw driver and full time in some medicine business.

Then there are bicycle drivers. These are hard working but less earning people. Of course these include few students. The hard working people have tough time on road, as they are slowest in the traffic everybody wants them to stay away. I had met one fellow who is cycling every day to work, I asked him about it and told him that he is fitter then I am. Then from nowhere he said even though he is fit and clears fitness test for police recruitment, he fails in personal interview. In 5minutes I could see his pain and pleasure. I wished him good luck, he smiled and departed.

Actually it is like every fast vehicle on road wants the slower one in front to move as quickly as possible as if only they have right to drive. This thought brings me to drivers of big cars. First of all they can’t pass by others easily as they themselves are big. The slow drivers think why the hell should I move for this big car fellow.

Everybody on road wants others to move out of their way, but they cant see that they are also in someone else’s way.

Then there are bikers. The college boys who drive them are most reckless. But it’s their age, which drives the bike. The age of show off. They break rules without their knowledge. They put helmet everywhere except on their head. They are in hurry to reach the place where they can talk nonsense with friends. I have been there J.

On road there are people who just walk. They also have the tough time.

While driving in Ahmedabad you got to anticipate anything from anywhere.

And how can I forget the shark of the road. The AMTS buses. I pity their drivers who have to reach on time without hitting anyone. People have faintest of idea that how difficult is to maneuver big bus in traffic. Everyone is against him.

On crossroad people forget about their safety and others safety. At junction people are the bridge they start fighting with each other so that one of them can pass by. In fighting they both fell in a valley. Then two goats come same way, but they don’t fight, one of them lies down and other one just jumps of him. This way they crossed bridge for their rest of the life.

Same way we need to lie down sometimes while driving so that people can pass by and we have fewer accidents.

People on road are with lots of junk in their mind, lots of tensions, lots of worries, lots of happiness, lots of eagerness, so they drive accordingly. Have some patience.most aggressive. I have seen people jumping on junction just to beat you in imaginary race and then drive slowly.

The traffic police have tough time handling educated people on any junction. I salute them for their patience.

I remember one story, which is very fitting to our traffic scenario. The story goes like this, there was a very narrow bridge connecting two hills. Only one person can walk in either direction. In a morning two dogs come from opposite direction. Upon reaching middle of

India Vs USA Part-1

When I was in USA I feel as if whole world is at war. When you see news over there it’s all about world crisis. War on Terror they call it and they show news of Afghanistan, Iraq and talks with Iran, NKorea, Venezuela etc. Watching all this I always felt that we are facing some world crisis.

Now I have come back to my homeland, and staying at Ahmedabad. And now I feel as if only India is living in various crises and the rest of the world is very peaceful. The news channels are restricted to crisis in India. And I must say that my country is so big that no news stays in demand for more than three days. There is always something, which is breaking on news channel.

When you meet me………

When you meet me after few months, do not expect me to be same as you had meet me last time. We want to put our name on as many things as possible to feel great and powerful. So, if developing countries are consuming more of everything then it is quite obvious, people of growing economy wants to expand their footprint whether others like it or not.As far as people are working towards their constructive dreams others should not have a problem. For years people in developing countries have dreamt of owning a house, car, the list goes on. Now is the time when they have started to achieve those.Developed nations have reached a level which developing nations have just begun to touch. Developed nations have consumed, consume and consume for years. Now they want to stop others and deny their dreams!!On other side nature of the business is such that most of the companies can not survive without doing business with developing countries. They need to cash in on growing economies. They have to motivate the consumption appetite of middle class in developing countries.I don't have numbers but I am assuming that fuel consumption by a fighter plane is way higher then somebody driving a city car in developing nation. There are way too many contradictions in our lives.Nobody from developed nations can deny on basis of global warming, a middle class family in developing nations from buying any product which adds to their comfort. People in developing nations have waited years for such things and I am sure they would buy more and more in coming years. And their buying would keep companies in developed nations going. Purchasing power of growing nations would make sure that people in developed nations have enough money to run their global warming compliant products!!!People in developed nations have started to buy a fuel economical car after seeing the price increase, not because they were worried about global warming. But after all these, I believe that we all will still keep growing amidst crisis. We will create more problems and these problems will keep us busy in finding their solutions. Life will go on!!

Funny rickshaw drivers and delayed flights

It’s been quite some time that I am staying at Bangalore and from routine observation I feel that rickshaw drivers are the most amazing people you will meet here.

I think at most of the places you will find that once you ask any rickshaw driver for a ride they will obliged and will take you to your destination, you may fight for fare but that’s ok. Now the Bangalore rickshaw drivers are little different. Right in the morning you go ask them for a ride and they would bluntly deny. Its beyond my understanding, how can you deny a ride. If you are lucky they would take you, but you will have to pay heavy price for it. Again they will bluntly ask for double fare or one half fares. But I find this very funny, I enjoy their denial. They are using our need to full extent and making good money in the city which has become little costly to live in. in this scenario where you have no choice but to pay more and ride, we had totally exciting experience. We were 7 friends and we were coming from late dinner party, we thought we would need two rickshaws and will have to pay double the fare. But surprisingly this rickshaw driver came with an offer which we could not deny. He said I will take you all but with double fare. It was beneficial to both the parties. We had a really good laugh about it.

My flight experience is also very exciting. Recently I was going back to my hometown for Diwali, and I was traveling by Spicejet, a low fare airlines. From my past experience I knew that this flight would be delayed as usual and I will reach very late. So I was ready for delay. I was all prepared for delayed journey. But Spcicejet guys added little humour and gave many passengers a new experience. One week before the journey, they started sending smses announcing that scheduled flight has be pre poned by 10minutes, so make a note of it. As 6 smses were not enough, they sent an email, also I got to calls with prerecorded messages, my parents got a call at home, and then they called me to convey the message. After all this jugglery ultimately flight was delayed as I had thought and it started one and half hour after the new scheduled time.

As Indian aviation business is booming, and it will grow even more, this things are expected. But I should give all credit to the airline staff who handles the passengers with lot of patience and respect. There are situations where flights have been cancelled or delayed by several hours that are the time when airline staff have to really face the angry customers. But they handle it quite nicely.

But I enjoy these journey negotiations. I get good laugh out of this. I like such situations as I don’t have to do much but plan dynamically and wait. The good part is that I get to observe people with different emotions.

Sitting quiet

We look for every excuse to keep our self engage.

We are scared if we have to spend a little time with ourself alone. But we can always do simple things. Simple things include many daily routine stuff.

Ø Switching off lights when not using
Ø Taking care of your body by doing exercise
Ø Taking care of your eyes and teeth
Ø Should not waste water and food
Ø Rise early so you don’t have to rush to office
Ø Reminding yourself that this shall pass too in happy and sad moments
Ø Wearing smile every time you walk out and even while being in solitude
Ø Be considerate while driving and in general

I have been trying to follow above listed simple things. You don’t have to be extraordinary to follow them. You just have to be aware and be simple in approach. We make things too complicated and feel miserable.

I have been to few places and I see wastage of electricity a lot. All young guns who are passionate about future and talk furiously about system being failure and what not. Should pay little attention to their electricity usage.

I think most of us young people do not exercise but still want six-pack or a curvy figure. It takes only 20minutes to finish very simple stretching exercises but the starting day never comes. Its absolutely funny and irritating.

I am not sure how many of us have to rush to office just because we didn’t get up 10 minutes early everyday.

By wearing just smile everyday will bring your surrounding at ease and people will feel comfortable around you. It may start as fake smile but eventually it will come naturally to you.

It’s all about making your routine simple. Do simple things with perfection and you will have easy life.

Smart Short Story.

An old Greek man lived alone in Marrickville. He wanted to dig histomato garden, but it was hard work for his advanced years as the groundwas very hard. His only son, Spiro, who used to help him, was in prison. The old manwrote a letter to his son and described his predicament.Dear Spiro,I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plantmy tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up agarden plot. If you were here my troubles would be over. I know youwould dig the plot for me.Love PapaA few days later he received a letter from his son.Dear Papa,Don't dig up the garden. There is this store called Sapna book store, and I was just browsing and suddenly saw this book, the title is very catchy and so started reading it. After 12 pages I thought of buying it. After one week I went back to store and just bought the book.

It’s a good book with lot many things to digest. It’s a text book kind but fun to read.

I think following I picked up from book.

For a company to grow and become a successful in market and also to become favorites among the employees, company has to take a look at the company of similar nature and has excellent record in every aspect.

Rather looking at the mistakes made and analyzing them and rectifying them to reach next level, take the already proven case study, and try to implement such techniques.

I thought of an example of scoring in engineering exams. Lets say you scored 62 in last semester, and you want to score higher in next semester, rather then just introspecting your own reading habits and preparation methods, talk to a guy/gal who had scored above 70 in last semester. Find out from them the methods or tricks to score higher. And mold those tricks to your nature and I am very sure you will score higher.

Another phrase which will or which is very popular right now is million people mentality and billion people mentality.

All the GRCs globally recognized companies need to gauge the billion people mindset to enter markets like Indian and China.

A great book but for me it’s too much information. Mr. Shombit Sengupta must have observed a lot to put up such detailed analysis of his work experience. He had started very small and has reached maximum, very motivating.

Street called Thippasandra at Bangalore.

Thippasandra is the street where I started my stay at Bangalore. I had visited this city about decade ago, but with tourist’s perspective. Now I am here as an ASIC engineer, in this world famous Indian IT hub.

My stay is at <st1:street st="on"><st1:address st="on">Thippasandra Street</st1:address></st1:Street>. A unique street where, business or say people routine is very busy and bouncy and curvy. It’s a proper market street you can relate to if you have stayed or staying in old part of any city in India.

The whole street has every possible shop you can imagine; it’s not a mall though. Many shops are here since long time. People around here are mix of outsiders or say IT engineers and locals whose generations have lived here.

It’s a street where five temples are situated at regular interval. Ganesha temple is very famous landmark. It’s a steer where bars are situated at regular interval but for me they are hidden as I am not searching for them. It’s a street where juice centers are situated at regular interval. Tea shops are here, sweet shops are here, construction related, cloths, grocery shops, and everything is available here.

Kanti’s shop is frequented by everyone as it is the only place provides other than south Indian dishes.

There is this road side small cart which sells Jalebi in the evening. It so famous that people eat it right there, and also take home. Good jalebi.

In Bangalore two things are very common in every area. One is south Indian style breakfast center whose names would be ended with “sagar”. Second thing is juice center.

The street is so crowded during evening that you can not walk in straight line; you got to jump, dodge and have a curvy road till you reach your destination. It’s a one way but as usual there will some biker, or car will break that rule and drive in opposite direction. Anyway its fun to observe people on the street.

It seems the street which was quite and having a simple routine has changed due to influx of young guns in the city and has became a street where there is lots of hustling whole day.

It has connectivity to CMH road on one side and on other side there is whole BEML and HAL area. There is also an LIC Bima nagar, and indira Nagar area. CMH road has many modern shops and junk food joints. There is Crossword near by also local Sapna Book store for book lovers.

Open gutter system has given two gifts, a natural food for trees and mosquitoes.
Thippasandra is the street which has transformed over the years, I hope in coming years it becomes a clean and organize street.

Trip to garden.

Few weeks back I went to garden. A nearby you can say neighborhood garden. There I was with my sister and her little kid, my niece.

Suddenly I noticed that there are so many kids. There are many parents giving a best weekend treatment to their kids.

Average expense on one kid would be around 30rupees. There are many small rides in the park to give enough motivation to spend the money.

Kids are going crazy. Parents are feeling sense of satisfaction on giving their kids their time.

These are mostly from Gujarati families. And funny thing is most of them would be calling their kids using some English words or sentences. Few kids are reciting their English poems.

I laughed when I heard this, “Rohit come here tare kyan sit thavu chhe?”

Gujarati middle class families have I think realized that their kids should not feel left out, and thus they have put their kids in English medium schools.

I have seen kids just memorizing the answers in English without even understanding a word of it.

Many kids, half knowledge, tough competition.

Friendship.

Lucky are those who have found true friends. And I am one of them. I have friends who have given me enough freedom to be myself. There are no obligations from any side. You can just flow with the relationship. When I meet them after long time or talk to them after long time we pick from where we had left last time. There is no break as far as communication is concern.

I hate when a relationship becomes a series of expectations and obligations. Why can’t I be myself?

I just read somewhere that bondage, or too much togetherness kills relationships. Separation improves the relationship.

I have learned many things from my friends. Either they were direct in pointing the fault or there were incidents from which I had to decode the behavior.

I love to be with friends. I love the long talks, rather nonsense talks. I have laughed with my friends for no reason.

The great thing about true friendship is that you can say no. saying no in relationship is very important. That’s the sign of freedom and honesty. Relationship stays transparent and trust stays forever.

Unwontedly or say by coincidence I have sent message to many of my friends on so called friendship day.

Enough for today.

Death.

I saw death very closely recently. I got emotional not for the person who died, or people related to him. I got emotional because I realized that, one day same will happen to me. Also, one day I will be in a position where someone from my parents or some one I like the most will die.

It is very naked truth of life. The end. The way people treat the dead body is also remarkable. It takes an half an hour to make the body disappear. People cry for a while then get back to normal talks, they remember the good times, the bad times. People related to dead person cry because they know there are still unfinished wishes, untold emotions, and they cry because they can't handle it that they are also going the same path. I don't know how to react to death.

We were at the crematorium, on one side we pushed the body inside, and other side the whole world was revolving as it is, people on the street were in their routine.

From death I learned that there nothing to fret or fume about in life. If you know your end wouldn't you try and make sure that you enjoy your moments. When I go for vacation or so, I make sure that we laugh, we stay awake till late and make most of our time. Isn't this apply to our life journey. We should be always in happy mood, make most of our moments here.

Death, this incident should make people understand that there is nothing great about keeping grudge, or feeling envy or by regretting anything. What we got is this moment. I feel that everything else is taken care of.

If I imaging that I am no more, I am dead then what. We entered this world without any awareness and we will go unawre. The mystery will continue fore ever. This thoughts makes me more fearless.

Any I still get angry for few things, I still get tensed for few things, but I want to be free of these feelings. I want to give more forgiveness, I want to accept everyone the way the are.

It frustrates me when I see people around me including me cribbing or complaining about the things which doesn't matter for me actually. I always feel that nothing matters, just being here is the biggest asset, gift we have got.

Lets just be here, enjoy and perish.

Pain of growth

City of Ahmedabad is growing and its growing fast. I have a good feeling about this development.

Ahmedabad is the place who is home to lots of NRIs. I enjoy this status of the city of being a home to pardeshis, its quite funny.

I see fairly well developed Ahmedabad after lets say 10 years. And I hope that I will be there. With me all locals will go through the pain of this growth. And we all would enjoy the better and comfortable city very much. The reason because we would have felt the pain. For example the over bridge which is under construction near my home is causing the pain while driving over there, but after its done I will enjoy it very much because it will give me comfort of driving.

But the NRI, when he or she visits after 3-4 years, would never enjoy the way we locals would. The reason they have not felt what it was like when it was building.

Its like parents would never have same feelings for the adopted child, as compare to parents of their own child. You adopt a three year old, which is a great and bold thing to do. But to give a birth to a child, and to raise her or him its not a easy job. Parents will feel very proud when their offspring becomes a well groomed person.

Pain while growing is very sweet, few days of pain and then life long happiness.

I would like to enjoy the pain of growth and then double my enjoyment once the growth is made.

People are not happy where they are.

Few years back when I had not achieved my career goal, I was not having a job of my liking and things were going down hill, I used to think that all my friends and others who have a job in reputed company are happy and contented. I was feeling guilty for not trying hard enough to get to such level.

During this time I used to do lots of introspection, I was at place of dreams, place of lots of opportunities, I was at US.

Suddenly I decided that it would be better of if I go back to my home ground. The day I landed and till today I am at peace. I am happy as never before.

Anyway, to really prove what I think that everyone is not happy where they are, I just experienced one thing, when I came to this great city for official work in a big fish of corporate world. And I found people here are also not happy. May be few are but these are new joinee and starting their career. They are in myth of achieving what they had dreamt of. But the seniors are very stressed and not happy.

Few are leaving this company I don’t know the reason.

I don’t know what everyone needs, what they are running for. I think its very easy to be happy and at peace, but we don’t need that. Everyone will talk about problems, worries, but they would never step aside and grab the simple way to happiness.

I am so happy and I want to share this happiness, but people are hard and they have trained themselves in such a way that I am having trouble spreading the happiness.

I wish everyone can feel happy where they are. To realise at the end of our life I hope we can realise as early as possible. Every effort we make leads to pain and grief.

Vikram Sarabhai community science center

I went to this place, which I should have visited and used for my education years back. but anyway, it happend today on the last day of year 2006.

the center is just amazing, kids can learn many things hands on. they have labs for each science stream, they have lab for even Mathematics. they astronomy club.

and they have a library where books are just dying. I checked out one book today, it was last checked out in year 1998, and before that 1981. thats how we use such a nice place.

But such places gives me hope, that atleast part of Ahmedabad is doing some good work. In the era of mall, and where people are just shopping shopping, we have some good things going.

There another place called science city, that place is also good place to visit, if you are a kid interested in science, well kids are alway interested in exciting things. here they have science models on display to explain science principles.

Lets hope we get more centers like this, and we can support them financially also.

Vikram Sarabhai community science center link
http://www.vascsc.org/

Science city ahmedabad link

http://www.scity.org/

Best movie of year 2006 "Dor"

Movie Dor directed and written by Nagesh Kukoonoor in my view is the best movie of the year 2006. Because its not a remake of any old movie, its not an unnecessary sequel of any movie nor it is inspired by any hollywood movie. Plain, simple and above all it is very original, made in India movie.

It has beautiful darkness of Himachal and refreshing brightness of Rajsthan dessert. All the artists in the movie have performed extremely well. The direction, the dialogues and the silence in the last scene are just perfect.

We need more movies like this. No kid jumped from the roof after seeing this movie which happened after Krrish (Pathetic movie) and no youth broke his leg after driving bike like Dhoom-2 movie (pathetic movie).

Well Munnabhai part 2 was fantastic, and gave really good message, but anyway.

I will put Dor where we put classics of hindi cinema.

Orkut

I opened my account in Orkut after accidentally came to know that now world is staying in touch with more open medium.

I opened the account for just hack of it, and then realized people have created their smart accounts and scrapping here and there absolutely openly.

I find it absolutely funny when I see some profile over there at orkut. Most of them have written about themselves. They have written about theri passion, and books and movies, food likings.

I wonder when they write whom do they talk to. Why would you like to tell the whole world about yourself. I guess our "friends" know us well enough, and strangers need not to worry about our preferences.

Its funny for me. Even this blog writing, its like I am writing it for myself, and at the back of my mind hoping for some comments from unknown. I think these are ways to satisfy our ego.

But at the end I think its all exciting, and its like broadening your reach, your thoughts. Its like I am more naked now in front of the world. Strangers can find out about where I live and what kind food I would prefer if I visit those strangers.

Cricket-Kaif-Pepsi-VIPpass

I had wonderful day at Sardar Patel Stadium here at Ahmedabad. Got free passes from friend and went for a Westindies vs England match of ICC trophy. I took my friend Kahan who is in 5th standard and he is very enthusiastiv about cricket. And I wanted to show him the real deal up close.

We saw the whole match. From 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm we were at lower part of the stadium, crowded, dirty, dusty and loud place. At 8:00 pm we got CLUB members passes from Valay. And we went all the way up where there was an AC room with color TV, and we saw remaining match from top, and it was just amazing. Kahan was all crazy about stadium experience.

Another part of this stadium matches is that, you can take any food items or water bottles, as they know that amadavadis are so crazy, that if they dont like the performance they will just start throwing any thing on the ground, and as they dont use dustbins-garbage cans that frequently they would make a place more dirty and disgusting.

Well because of these restrictions, you have to buy a food from outside food stalls. 35oml pepsi was 20 rupees, and a plate of bhelpuri was 25 rupees. I was really angry because I had to pay 20rupees for pepsi, which is the worst drink on the world. Any I spent good amount on eatables and threw everything in garbage cans, but very few people were inspired to do the same. There were people who would go till garbage can place, throw the stuff, and if they miss the can they would just ignore it and walk away, I tried but what if didnot want to go in. Another moment when I get angry and feel sorry for them.

Technology has reached India but not the attitude to deserve it. Anyways, things will change.

Another interesting thing I have noticed during our India vs Aus match is that our great fielder Kaif is not that great. He may be good at covers, but not up close at forward short leg or slips. This great fielders first reaction to anything is funny jump and then he settle downs to catch the ball. You got to see it to really understand. I mean if you are standing at forward short leg you are supposed to be still and watch the ball closely, and react after batsman has played the shot. Kaif will jump first as soon as batsman attempts the shot, after ball has reached his area he will come down at make a valient affort.

But that windies vs England match was awesome, as we saw Pietersen clobbering the windies from the members room. It was awesome.

The day wasy great as I had very enthusiastic company of Kahan, who didnt budge till the last ball. He was all excited till we reached home.

Shakespeare

I just love this quote from Shakespeare.
